After
a good nights sleep at Burg Hornberg we got up and had a nice German breakfast
in the terrace restaurant. After breakfast we went up into the castle
ruins and hiked around for quite awhile. The photo gallery is quite large
because it was so beautiful and interesting. Taylor and I were firing
off pictures with our digital cameras like crazy and I think Morgan burned
through a couple rolls of film. When we came back down from the castle
we poked around in the wine shop and museum. We drove up the Neckar River
north to Neckarsteinach and walked down to the Neckar River and watched
a couple of ferries pull in. We stopped at a quaint terrace pub overlooking
the river and had a late lunch. After lunch we drove back south down the
Neckar to a little town called Eberbach. We walked around all of the little
back streets of shops and got some ice cream cones. It is mind boggling
to see buildings and houses that were built so many hundreds of years
ago. The road we have been driving along is called the “Burgstrasse”.
There are castles on the hillside by almost every town. We returned to
Burg Hornberg and had dinner in the terrace restaurant. When we left the
restaurant we met Rudolph, a performer who dresses in old jester costume
and entertains in the banquet room between courses for the banquet guests.
He spoke English very well and we talked for a while about the different
castles and towns in the area. He talked to Morgan about the different
period instruments he plays. This will be our last evening in Burg Hornberg
and I know I will miss it. It is such an awesome place with such great
views and scenery. The hotel staff is incredibly nice. I highly recommend
staying here if you ever have the chance.
